Tenth Grade
At the beginning of the tenth grade, students are reintroduced to the concepts of goal setting and self-responsibility with a focus on establishing academic, personal, and athletic goals for the upcoming school year. Following this reintroduction, the focus of the weekly Project SCORE class turns to “community outreach and involvement". In other words, student athletes develop a community outreach program that they will implement during the winter/spring term. Through this project, the student athletes develop important skills and personal characteristics, such as learning how to access information (e.g., WWW), working together as a team, developing an action plan, setting up and following through on a goal, and being altruistic. Throughout the project, students keep a weekly journal on their experiences, thoughts, and feelings about what they are doing and what they are learning. At the end of the project, each student writes a paper that summarizes their involvement in the community outreach project, the impact the project had on the community, and how they changed as a result of being involved in the project.
