Ninth Grade |
 |
| Beginning in the ninth grade, student athletes are taught how to set and achieve goals in all areas of their lives and to take responsibility for the choices they make. In small classes that meet twice weekly throughout the year, they are introduced to academic/learning strategies, communication skills, self-regulation strategies, stress management strategies, and decision making/problem-solving skills, all of which will help them successfully negotiate the demands, stressors, and problems they are likely to face throughout life. In addition, they are introduced to the idea that many of the skills they develop as a result of sport participation, such as performing under pressure, staying motivated, achieving goals, and following instructions can be applied in other life areas to enhance their chances of success. Thus, the student athletes are encouraged to identify and use these skills to help them be successful in their academics, their relationships, and their jobs, to name just a few. |
